It seems appropriate that I should do this post now. All summer and fall we have had a family group of turkeys visit our property.
I've watched old lame Momma hen go from 10 little ones to just 3 that have made it to adulthood. While my parents were here a fifth joined the group. I had my suspicion's but this week they were confirmed.
The new addition is indeed a Tom, a young one (called a Jake) who likely struck out on his own. Just look at that amazing blue head!
And yes, we joked about a traditional Thanksgiving feast, but these birds are safe, from us at least!
Parting shot: Only sleepy heads in THE most coveted spot in the house.

Your pack of pups and flock of turkeys are ready for a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!
How cool to have your own flock to watch and enjoy! Do they make sounds like we see on TV or are those only the captive ones squawking?
After all these strong winds aren't you glad your trees were hacked back and hauled away! Even in my neighborhood in town trees have been downed and branches crashing over fences doing damage. Let's hope we are snow-free for a couple more days! What a cozy chair for those puppies....
Stella, Sweet Robin and Peter look so cute all cuddled together for a long winters nap. Happy Turkey day to you and yours!
Hi Theresa, I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and so glad none of your turkeys will be sacrificed for dinner!....Anna
Anna, No the turkeys are much too entertaining to harm. In fact other than the small rodent population which the barn cats keep in check, most everything finds a safe haven here.
Martha, I have to fight for a spot on that chair don't you know!
joannely, The times often do make the laugh producing gobble. It is a noisey bunch though, you can hear their chirps in the woods. No trees down here but a fresh heavy carpet of pine needles.
LA, They are always ready for a food based holiday!
Have a good one all.
Wonderful turkey pics! I think we are seeing more of this bird in the last few years, and I'm glad. Enjoy your holiday and I hope the little pack let you have some room in the chair.
How cool! You get to have your very own live lawn ornaments! The only live things we get wandering through our yard are California Quail and squirrels. The baby Quail are very cute though.
Happy Thanksgiving! Have some dressing for me!
Happy Thanksgiving, Theresa! I always enjoy your blog so much. Wish I could have seen you with your Dad this trip, glad you had a great time.
I hope you holiday was a delightful one! The pups certainly look well off!
