Jerky jerky just TOSS IT OUT!

This is a quick post and mostly meant for dog and cat owners, who I know are abundant among visitors. This post concerns chicken jerky treats made in China.I know with all the news focused on Mali and weapons and debt ceilings, some of us may have missed this recent news. There have been voluntary recalls of these products and the FDA has updated statistics on reports of these Made in China products. Bottom line, if you have dogs or cats and any of these treats in your pantry, toss them out or return them. And I'd go as far as saying if you have any treats or pet food made in China, toss that too. It's just not worth the worry considering the number of problems and recalls involving Chinese produced edibles for our pets (and selves). There are many good products produced and sourced in the USA. Read your labels carefully. If you want to keep up with pet food recalls there are two places I often check. The Pet Food List on Facebook and Lucy Girl blog. Both of these sites you can also get to using the Pet Food List link that has been on  the right hand side of my blog forever. Go forth, give those dogs and cats a pet from me and a safe healthy treat! :)

Parting shot: TREAT?! Did you just type TREAT?  I'm sure I heard TREAT being typed....

  1. Last weekend it had been pulled from the shelves of our store....now Max & Mia are giving us this "what is this new junk your trying to give as treats" look..! I'm thinking of making our own..
    Thanks and enjoy

  2. Interesting. I have never bought those treats as I was unsure what they were - glad I have resisted all these years. Good old fashioned Milk bones are all my SamWise gets and believe me they are enough. If I let him he would eat the whole box in one sitting - sort sounds like me with human cookies ;-)

  3. I just double checked the cat food (to be sure!) and can safely say that it's made in the good ole USA! Thanks for the heads up!

  4. When the whole melamine thing happened, I almost lost my cat to bad food (it wasn't cheap food either). $400 later, I had him back, but it changed him. He lived to be 11, but I often wonder if he'd still be around if that hadn't happened.

Treats at my house are raw meat (usually frozen). I have the tom turkey neck (in 2 pieces) that Lyra will get for special occasions. I've always given my dogs the chicken necks, etc., raw, because before cooking, the bones don't splinter. They love them...

  5. You know, I don't think I have eaten or given food products made in China since that melamine thing years ago. Wasn't a mistake back then, don't want to chance it now. Fresh when I can, made locally when possible. I do what I can.

  6. Thanks for the information. I've purchased dog chewies from our local store that have made both our dogs sick. I'm with you-I'd rather not buy anything made in China.
